Sacred Pilgrimage Sites in Bhutan

Bhutan offers some of the most revered pilgrimage sites dotted with sacred temples, dzongs (fortresses), and monasteries that hold great historical and religious significance. 

Paro Taktsang, or Tiger’s Nest, is a revered pilgrimage site in Bhutan, where devotees honor Guru Padmasambhava’s meditation. It symbolizes spiritual enlightenment and attracts countless pilgrims annually.

Kyerchu Temple

Kyichu Lhakhang

Kyichu Lhakhang, built in the 7th century, is a significant pilgrimage site in Bhutan. Revered for its sacred relics, it attracts devotees seeking blessings and spiritual enlightenment.

Jampa Lhakhang

Jambay Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, is a sacred pilgrimage site built in 659 CE to subdue a demoness. It hosts the vibrant Jambay Lhakhang Drup festival.

Best Hot Springs

Bhutan is also known for its natural hot springs. Tshachus, or hot springs, are found throughout Bhutan and are integral to Bhutanese culture due to their therapeutic properties and spiritual significance.

Chubu Tshachu is one of the most well-known hot springs in Bhutan. Guru Rinpoche is said to have discovered it in the eighth century. Chubu Tshachu is located in Toedwang Gewog under Punakha Dzongkhag. Every year, over a thousand people visit the hot spring.

Gasa Tshachu

Gasa Tshachu is also one of the most popular hot springs in the country situated near the bank of the Mo Chhu River at an elevation of 2100 meters in Gasa Dzongkhag. The hot spring is believed to cure thirteen different types of diseases.

Gelephu Tshachu

Gelephu Tshachu is a hot spring located in the warm southern plains of Gelephu under Shershong Gewog of Sarpang Dzongkhag at an altitude of 332 meters. Gelephu Tshachu is located uphill from Gelephu, around 15 kilometers. Known for their miraculous healing powers and properties, Gelephu Tshachu was inaugurated by the third Druk Gyalpo Jigme Dorji Wangchuck in 1962.
