Dhur Tshachu, also known as Dur hot spring, is a hot spring revealed by Guru Menlha, renowned for its medicinal value to cure many diseases. The hot spring is located in the Dhur village within the jurisdiction of Wangchuck Centennial Park in the north of Bumthang Dzongkhag, at an altitude of above 3500 meters.
Temples in Bhutan serve as spiritual sanctuaries and educational centers. Bhutan is rich in culture, spirituality, and Buddhist heritage. Among the most famous sites are Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), Kurjey Temple, and Kyichu Lhakhang, each offering unique architecture and historical significance.
Duenmang Tshachu is one of the hot springs in Bhutan. It is located on the right bank of the Mangdechhu at the base of a cliff of Kamjong Hill in Nangkor Gewog under Zhemgang Dzongkhag. It is widely known as the Kheng Tshachu due to its location in the center of the Kheng region at an elevation of 500 meters above sea level.
Drupchhu or holy spring waters are considered to be blessed water, often extracted from a cliff or a sacred place by a spiritual person. Many holy spring waters in Bhutan are said to have been extracted by Guru Rinpoche. The holy springs may or may not have medicinal value, but are considered to have a great spiritual power to liberate one from suffering if one drinks them.
Menchu, or medicinal (mineral) springs, are naturally occurring springs that produce water rich in dissolved minerals, salts, and gases. It is believed that great Buddhist masters like Guru Rimpoche have blessed the medicinal waters or mineral springs. Many important religious sites in Bhutan have medicinal spring water extracted by the founder of the place. Bhutanese people have long used Menchu as a spiritual blessing and for bathing.
Thuji Dra is one of the four cliffs of Guru Rinpoche prophesied to Phajo Drugom Zhigpo by Guru Rinpoche. This sacred cliff is located in Thimphu Dzongkhag at 4,000 meters above sea level.
Phajo Drugom Zhigpo founded Thujidrag Goenpa in the 13th century. The name Thuje dra is derived from Phagpa Thujechenpo, “The Compassionate One,” which Phajo had seen in his vision while he meditated at the spot where the monastery stands today.
Tha Namkhai Dzong is a holy site of Guru Rinpoche that resembles a frontier sky fortress, featuring a religious bell hanging from a cliff and an Urn (Thro). It is located in Lajab Gewog under Dagana Dzongkhag at an elevation of 1560 meters above sea level.
Jomolhari is a sacred mountain with a meditation cave of Guru Rinpoche and Khandro Yeshe Tsogyal located at an altitude of more than 4,600 meters above sea level. The Jomolhari Temple is built near the cave within the Jurisdiction of Soe Gewog of Lingzhi Drungkhag under Thimphu Dzongkhag. However, not many people visit this holy site due to the altitude and distance.
Rangtse Ney is a sacred abode of Guru Rinpoche and Khandro Yeshe Tsogyel, located in Chego village in Gakiling Gewog under Haa Dzongkhag at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level. This sacred, hidden site is located on the top (Tse) of a unique bowl-shaped valley (Rong) overlooking the Amochhu. Thus, the name Rongtse.
Gom Dra is one of Guru Rinpoche’s Four Cliffs, which he entrusted to Phajo Drugom Zhigpo in his prophetic vision. This sacred cliff is located in Paro Dzongkhag at an elevation of more than 2,200 meters above sea level.
Khandro Tashi Wangmo from Chang-Namka village extended the centuries-old Drupkhang into a small temple. Later, Prostration Man Chimi built a beautiful temple complex in the meditation cliff cave of Phajo.
